With my trip just around the corner, I've been fitting in as many rides as possible. I hit some pretty major mileage milestones over Memorial Day weekend when I finished my first ever century ride (100 miles) and reached my training goal of 500 miles. I was fortunate enough to spend 80+ miles of the ride with two fellow Bike & Builders while we explored all 45 miles of the Washington & Old Dominion Trail which follows an old railroad right of way that was abandoned in the late 1960's. It was such a pleasant, fun ride and I was quite pleased with how great I felt by the end, given it was 25% further than I had ever ridden before. I think the trailside BBQ pitstop really helped as well!
It's now just over a week until I meet up with my 31 routemates in New Haven, CT and I could not be more excited! It was nearly 8 months ago that I decided to sign up for this trip and now it's just around the corner. I want to thank everyone who has been so kind and supportive, from my family, friends, and coworkers, to the random acquaintances that took an interest in the affordable housing crisis and the impact that Bike & Build can make. This has already been an inspiring experience, and it has only just begun!
(Photo cred must be given to Mike S and Maddie T for some of these pics. I was not on top of my camera game on Memorial Day.)
