I finally hit my goal of riding 75 miles in a week and I couldn't have picked a better time to do it. This past week was the culmination of everything amazing about DC in the springtime. The cherry blossoms were in peak bloom, the weather was absolutely perfect for biking, and I was able to explore so much of this incredible city I live in. I visited some old favorites like Yards Park, Hains Point, and the National Arboretum while also venturing into new territory, like the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (not pictured, my bad).
The week held a couple other firsts as well:
(1) I was able to ride the oh-so-elusive Pink Bike! Every year during the Cherry Blossom Festival Capital Bikeshare adds one pink bike to the system of over 2,500 bikes and it showed up outside my office. As you can tell from the picture I was overjoyed!
(2) I got my first flat tire on my new bike and successfully patched it without a hitch. An exciting moment for me since I've never done this myself.
(3) I had the opportunity to bike with some wonderful Bike & Build alumni and fellow new riders. I loved hearing the tales of their Bike & Build adventures and it got me even more excited for the real thing.
So, moral of the story is - my love affair with biking is continuing to grow each and every week and I can't wait to be able to do it every single day!
