Tonight's my last night in Connecticut and I have to say it's already been more than I ever thought it would be. We've only been together for 4 days, but it feels like I've known everyone for much longer. It's amazing how quickly a group can come together when everyone's working towards a common goal.
I can't even begin to sum up everything that has happened in the last 4 days so I'll just try and hit the highlights and post a bunch of pics. Over the last two days we had our first build day and our first ride day, both of which were incredible!
For the build day we worked with Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven and primarily got to work in community gardens. I helped plant some trees and rake some leaves. We also got a tour of some of the houses the group has refurbished and met the new tenants. It was so inspiring to see the excitement of both the tenants and the NHS employees.
During the bike day today I was on sweep duty with Justin. Being sweep means that you have to stay in the back and make sure everyone gets to the host safe and sound. It was actually really nice and allowed for us to stop and smell the mulberry trees (and eat a TON of them). We were a bit late getting into the host due to the unexpected hillyness of Connecticut but overall it was a great day. Tomorrow we ride to Middletown, NY and cross our first state line!
