Many exciting things regarding my Bike & Build trip this summer have happened over the past couple months! And I have yet to report on any of them....whoops! Mostly because I have forgotten to take pictures during all these momentous occasions. I guess I tend to just "live in the moment"?? Excuses, I know. But I promise I will try to be more diligent about posting leading up to the ride and especially when I'm out on the road. So anyway, my momentous occasions!
1. I got my new bike! It's so pretty and shiny and LIGHT! I can pick it up with one arm!
2. I named my new bike! (WARNING: For nerd eyes only) The name I picked is Shadowfax - Lord of the horses and Gandalf's loyal white steed in Lord of the Rings.
3. I took Shadowfax out for a ride! Me and my friend Peter are training for a ride in the Blue Ridge Mountains in May so we decided to do some hill laps up in the hilly parts of D.C. It's been a couple months since I've been out on a non-commuting bike ride so needless to say I got pretty tired, pretty quickly. It was also the first time I rode clipped in to my pedals in quite a long time so that's going to take some getting used to. Regardless, it was a good first ride! I got to test out my new bike computer as well and it told me my max speed was over 30 mph on the downhill! I've got a need for speed!
4. I'm more than halfway to my fundraising goal! A huge shout out to those who have already donated! I am overwhelmed by the support I've received by my friends and family. Your kindness means the world not only to me, but also to the people who will finally be able to live in affordable housing because of your contribution.
